Wilms develops three main types of solar protection: built-on, surface mounted and built-in screens, in addition to articulated-arm screens, terrace roofs and patio sun shades. For windows, your terrace or your veranda, there is always a made-to-measure solution, sustainably crafted in Belgium.

What is the price of screens and other solar protection?

The price of solar protection depends on several factors, because everything is made to measure. Wilms surface mounted screens start at €890 including installation, while more extensive solutions such as terrace roofs or patio sun shades cost more due to their size and finish.

Which factors determine the price?

  • Type of solar protection: screens, articulated-arm screens and fixed terrace roofs each have their own price category, but screens are usually more affordable because they are more compact.
  • Dimensions: the larger the window, terrace or veranda, the more material and installation work are required.
  • Installation and built-in work: larger constructions require more installation work

What is the most effective solar protection?

External solar protection is always the most effective because it stops the sun's rays before they heat up the glass. Wilms outdoor screens keep up to 90% of the heat out. For terraces, an articulated-arm screen works best, and for verandas, patio sun shades are the right choice.

Does solar protection require a permit?

In most cases, solar protection does not require a permit: screens and articulated-arm screens can usually be installed freely. For fixed constructions such as a terrace roof, a permit may be required. Always check the local rules with your municipality.

Which colour of solar protection keeps out the most heat?

Dark screens generally block more heat and sunlight, while lighter colours let in more daylight but keep out slightly less heat.

Many people think white works best because of reflection, but in practice darker fabrics keep more heat out because they absorb more sunlight. The right balance depends on your preference between daylight and heat protection.

What is the lifespan of solar protection?

With proper maintenance, Wilms solar protection lasts on average 20 years. It is strongly recommended to clean the fabrics regularly and have the mechanism checked annually to significantly extend its lifespan.
